We had thought that we had heard the last of these types of alleged scandals with the results of the Alder Hey Enquiry and the Redfern Enquiry. This must be extremely distressing for the relatives. It would appear that these are historical matters and hopefully will not happen again.
After the findings at Alder Hey, the Human Tissue Act was brought into force and there have been several Codes of Practice written as a result. It is now illegal to take human body parts without consent of the relatives.
The Code of Conduct on disposal of tissues also states that body parts should be dealt with, with respect and the sensitivity of the feelings of the bereaved should be taken into consideration.
